UP News Today: The aim of the Central Government’s Prime Minister Housing Scheme (PMAY Scheme) is to provide homes to the poor. However, several discrepancies have been observed in it many times. Several cases have emerged from Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, where neither the ‘house was received nor the housewife’ stayed. Allegedly, as soon as the first installment of PMAY was received, 11 women from the district eloped with their lovers, leaving their husbands behind. According to a report by News 18, these women allegedly took Rs. 40,000 as the first installment under the Prime Minister Housing Scheme and fled with their lovers. The incident came to light when their husbands reported the matter to the police.
2,350 beneficiaries received money
According to the report, recently nearly 2,350 beneficiaries under PMAY received money in Maharajganj district. It is said that these beneficiaries are from villages like Thuthibari, Sheetlapur, Chatiya, Ramnagar, Bakul Deeha, Khasra, Kishunpur, and Medhauli. Some reports also claim that following this incident, authorities have decided to stop the payment of the second installment to beneficiaries.
What is the PM Housing Scheme?
Under the Prime Minister Housing Scheme, assistance is provided by the government to build permanent homes for poor and middle-class families. The government also provides subsidies of up to Rs. 2.5 lakh based on family income. In cases of fraud, officials can demand money back from beneficiaries. Similar incidents have occurred in Uttar Pradesh last year as well, when four married women ran away with their lovers after receiving money under the Prime Minister Housing Scheme.
Similar cases have come to light before
It is reported that as soon as Rs. 50,000 assistance reached their bank accounts, all four women fled with their lovers. At that time, officials found that construction work on their homes had not yet begun. Authorities issued notices to immediately start construction, but no response was received.
